oh the life of a wienerblab

if only everyone could have it this good.

Today Ryan and Sara left pretty early, but Ryan wasn't gone long...and I did get my walk and breakfast of course.

Then Ryan came home and we napped on the couch for a bit while watching Politics with Don Newman on CBC.

Ryan went out again for a bit but came home with lots of groceries...probably for more meals for yours truly. He did spend a bit too much time on his computer after that working on his school stuff but now we're just hanging out on the couch havin' a beer and waiting for Sara to come home from her pottery class. She says she's making me a new food bowl. I can't wait because mine is way too small for a wienerblab of my stature. And of course...it better not clash with any of my outfits...which I'm sure it won't because Sara's good with that type of stuff. If Ryan were making it it might be a different story. Anyways, Sara should be home any minute so I should go. Back to chillin' on the couch for me...and no, I have no shame....I'm a wienerblab.

IT SNOWED!!!

oh my oh my oh my i have a very exciting thing to tell you! on sunday, it snowed!! and so i went outside and made a big snowperson (ryan and sara helped a little bit).

and then, to my great excitement, when i woke up on monday it had snowed even more! and it had snowed so very very much that i could barely poke my head out of the snow. don't worry though, i am an energetic wienerblab and can leap through the snow with much gusto.

ryan stayed home with me today. he said it was because his school was cancelled, but i know it was really because he wanted to play in the snow with me. it was heaps of fun! sara had to work but when she came home we went and frolicked in the school fields.

i have had so so so much fun that i am a very very tired wienerblab and must cuddle into a ball and fall asleep.

The wienerblab's new clothes

Yay me!

Ryan came home yesterday with some new clothes for me! I got me a nice new vest (although it's a bit snug...how small does Ryan think I am?) and a really comfy new wool hoodie. I love them so much. I don't know why, but I feel a lot more calm and comfortable in general when I'm wearing my clothes.

Probably at least partly because I just look so darn sexy...but then again...I am a wienerblab.

Hallowe'en is a stupid-head

I think hallowe'en should be done away with altogether. Everything is just too scary for a little old wienerblab. Things are going bang and boom and screech and people are yelling...I, for one, don't appreciate all that.

It was bad enough on the days leading up to hallowe'en, but on hallowe'en night it was just too much. Sara and Ryan weren't home for a while and I was so scared and I couldn't find anywhere to hide. I tried to dig my way out of my kennel but ended up just shredding the foam cushion into twelve million little bits of foam all over the place. (and Sara thought she had made a cover for the cushion that could resist my claws...silly sara) I tried to hide in the hallway but when I pulled all the clothes and baskets off the two lower shelves that run the length of the hallway, all I found behind them was a wall that I couldn't get through.

And with all this going on, for some reason Sara thought it would be a good idea to go for a walk. That's where I dug in my heels (well...actually my claws) and I wasn't going anywhere.

Now it's all done for another year (unless I have my way and we move to langford where fireworks aren't allowed) and I can relax again. Ryan and Sara better make it up to me for allowing the world to have such scary day every year.

Once again...I'm so helpful

I just don't know what Ryan would do without my help.

He's been sitting at his desk all day doing something on his computer so I decided I would go and check things out. He wouldn't still be sitting in front of his computer if he didn't need my help. I'm not sure how much help I was, because I had expected he was working out some mathematical equation relating to how he can best increase my food intake and the amount of time we can spend walking and sniffing outside. As it turns out, he was working on something to do with law cases and people's last names and some other stuff that I can't see any relevance to in respect of yours truly...

So I just shed on him some more and finished this up and went back to lying next to Sara on the couch. I think watching Britain's Next Top Model is more interesting than what Ryan's doing.

I better not get wet

I'm not so sure about this whole boat thing.

Sara's parents are moving to Protection Island, which was where Ryan and Sara got married. I've never actually been there because they didn't really want me on the boat to get there. (I might have been barking a little bit to express my displeasure).

Anyways...if I'm going to be able to visit Tobi I guess I'm going to have to figure out how to get over there. This boat is supposed to be the answer. I can bark to my heart's content without the boat captain refusing to let me on...(hopefully). Here's the boat Ryan's building and it looks like it's almost ready. I think it just needs paint now that it has a coat of primer on both the inside and out. The weather is what has been keeping Ryan from finishing...(and I suppose law school has been contributing as well.

Anyways, we'll see if this works.

We're going over to Pender Island today and I think Tobi's coming over there tomorrow as well...I can't wait. I don't like the ferry either but it's so big that the people driving the boat can't hear me complain...and Ryan and Sara give me lots of food to keep me occupied.

anyways...gotta go have a nap.

bye for now.

rain, rain, go away...

I guess I should have known better. It's just been so long since it rained on me that I thought it just wasn't something that happened anymore...but it started raining last night and I had to go on two walks today where I got wet.

Now I don't mind getting a bit wet every now and then but only on my terms...you know, when it's really hot outside and you're walking around down by the ocean, it's not that bad wading in a bit to cool off. I still wouldn't go for a swim (there's a reason it's called the dog-paddle and not the wienerblab-paddle...if you hadn't noticed, my legs weren't designed to propel a 45lb dog in water...presuming I don't just sink, that is...) but this rain when I need to go for my walks and mark and re-mark the city as mine is just not nice. I really do wish Ryan and Sara would do something about it.

Being that I still have to go out when it rains, at least I have my sexy rain jacket. I know you've seen it before but here I am modeling it for you.

look at that sexy wienerblab!

gotta go, I think I hear movement in the kitchen.

Mt Wiener Blab

My new favourite thing is climbing the mountains.

Some people might think that a wienerblab's legs would be
too little for such a passtime. To which i say that little wienerblab legs can work as very powerful springs.

I submit the following photo as proof that i climbed almost all the way to the top of finlayson. Even though much of the climb involved scrambling over rock steps taller than myself.
And i would have gone further if my people hadn't stopped me. For some reason they were worried that i might have problems on the way down.

i've been busy

yeah yeah i know i haven't written in a while. but i've been busy.

one of my latest projects is hunting. i go hunting in the morning glory. my neighbour, adrienne, told me that there was a rat that was living in there. at first i wasn't sure, since people can be unreliable about things like that. but then tobi confirmed adrienne's suspicions. since then i have spent quite a bit of time hunting in the morning glory.

don't worry. i think i have scared off the rat for now.

work work work...all i ever do

Today I helped Ryan build a table. He and Sara wanted a table for the backyard for when they have people over. We had some friends over on Saturday and only had these tiny little tables that I almost knocked over a bunch of times.

As you can tell by the picture, I helped out lots in the building phase. I couldn't really help with buying the materials because of the whole opposable-thumb thing, but I could help today. It took a few hours, and we had some kraft dinner for lunch in between while we were re-checking our measurements...mmmmmmm...macaroni...

now where was I? oh, right...so we finished the table, and then Sara came home and we went for a walk. Ryan also has a picture of the finished table on his blog. phew...I'm beat...time for me and my deer to have a nap.

What an adventure

I really don't know why I don't like driving in the car...I just can't help but freak out and bark and scratch and jump around. I want to be good, because Sara and Ryan always take me to fun places when we go out in the car, but something just comes over me in the car. Maybe I'm repressing some bad memories from before Ryan and Sara rescued me from evil Truro.

Take yesterday for example. We went for a sort of long car ride (not as long as the one to visit Tobi, but it was about 45 minutes) but we went to this great place called East Sooke Park. It was so much fun running through the woods and on the rocks on the beach (even though lots of the rocks were bigger than me). I even sort of went into the water. Sara and Ryan were walking along the rocks and there was this one part where I couldn't jump to the next rocks so I went in the water. It was up past my belly (which isn't far if you've seen my legs) and was a little cold, but it wasn't for very long and it was kind of refreshing. I'm still holding fast to my assertion that weinerblabs aren't meant to swim, but I think wading is okay.

On the way back I wasn't freaking out too much. I think it was partly because I was pretty tired after such an adventure, and partly because Sara kept feeding me my wonderful kibble the whole way back.

Sorry for not having any pictures but Ryan forgot his camera and my lack of opposable thumbs sort of prevents me from being able to use one myself.

The world is my back-scratcher

Do let me know by comments if you can't see these videos. They're supposed to be easy for most computers to see.

I just love lying in the backyard and rolling around on my back. it feels soooooo goooooood...like that guy on the lilydale turkey commercials says...mmmmm...that's what I need....turkey....

Anyways, it feels great on my back. Sometimes i also accompany it with moaning and growling, just so my people know I'm still there and know how good it feels...maybe they'll try it some time.

killer wienerblab

I just love killing deer and fish...here's me doing just that.

don't worry...it's just a stuffed one. and the noise is a squeaky and not an actual deer crying for help. real deer and fish actually scare me...but don't tell anyone. I don't want to tarnish my ferocious wienerblab image.

TOBI'S HERE TOBI'S HERE TOBI'S HERE

Did I mention that Tobi was here? Ryan and Sara weren't kidding. As soon as Tobi came in the house we started running around and wrestling and it was so much fun. Then we went out into the yard to run around some more!

Then Sara's dad left and didn't take Tobi with him so I think Tobi's staying here for a few says. I'm so excited. We can play and run around all over the place. It will be so much fun. I'm a little tired now from all that running around so I think I'll have a short nap and then maybe we can run around some more.

gotta go!

Yoga-time

when i want to relax, there's no better way than with a little yoga. you'd be surprised at how flexible a wienerblab can be. this is where it helps having a long back and neck, and short little legs.

I think I heard Sara and Ryan talking about my friend Tobi coming over from Nanaimo. I hope they're not just joking with me. It's so much fun when I get to play with Tobi. There's another dog next door now, Keisha, who seems nice but I'm not totally sure yet. We went for a walk last week and she didn't attack me so that was okay.

time to go whine at Ryan for some food.

Maestro Scubee and the Cacophony of Canines

I love playing this game. Ryan and Sara don't get too happy with it but it's so much fun. When I hear Sadie or Keisha-dog bark, I bark back. And then we all take turns howling at each other. Just now I heard Sadie bark when I was out in the backyard, and then Keisha-dog barked at her, so I joined in every time they would stop. I've stopped now because Ryan put me in my kennel (which is a very confusing place because I get sent there when I'm bad, but also when its time to eat).

You wouldn't think I could bark very loud standing barely a foot off the ground, but you'd be surprised. Being part daschund I was born with a hound bark so I can not only bark the pants off someone, I have this great loud howling I can do when I get really excited. People and dogs can hear me for miles.

phew...that was exhausting. time for a nap.

p.s. my people, ryan and sara, got married a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't invited but that was okay because I got to play with my friend Tobi for a whole week. i know they're going to be putting pictures up on their wedding website so you could check those out if you want.

scubee out...

Summertime!!!

what more could a fuzzy wienerblab ask for than to be able to frolic around in the backyard in the sun? well...four meals a day would be nice (hint, hint).

Ryan stayed home again today, except for a short time that he went out. This afternoon we got to run around in the back yard and I was able to do my rolling around in the grass and growling routine...it's soo much fun! I also fetched the ball a few times, but I get kinda bored of that when there are so many things to smell...and I can't wait for those plums to start falling from those trees...yummmmeeeee! I don't think that's going to happen for a while though.

I think my friend Adrienne moved in next door...I went to the apartment where that wierd chihuahua and the whippet lived and they weren't there. I think there's going to be another dog moving in because Adrienne always smells like this other dog. I hope she's a nice dog, because I'd like to have a new doggie-friend living next door.

wienerblab delivery service

After eating breakfast (a muffin) and lunch at the legislative dining room, she was really not looking forward to also having dinner there, because she had to stay at work until 9. Instead, Ryan and I made her dinner and walked down there to give it to her. Our original plan was to eat down there with her out on the lawn in the sun but she was too busy with work and had to go back inside.

We made her a big salad (don't worry, I tasted all the vegetables first to make sure they were okay for her to eat) and brought dressing, and some ginger ale, and we also brought her fresh strawberries and fake whipped cream (she gets itchy when she has the stuff with milk in it). She was really surprised and happy, and we did get to run around a bit on the lawn before we had to say good-bye and walk home. It was fun and I'm glad she enjoyed seeing us.

One thing we have to watch out for next time though are these really scary bears that are running loose in the city. They're very big and I'm worried about them attacking Ryan and Sara but I'm too little to stop them. You should be careful too!

earthquake!

You can never be too prepared for when that big earthquake hits. That's why I regularly practice my earthquake preparedness. It's very important that you either get into a doorway, or underneath a strong table or, in my case, chair, to protect yourself against falling ceilings and such.

A prepared wienerblab, is a safe wienerblab!

out on the town!

queue the Bee Gees, "Stayin' alive"..."oh you can tell by the way I use my walk..."

oops...I guess you don't need to hear me singing. Ryan and I just got back from a nice two-hour long adventure out on the town. We went to some printing shop that we've been to before but then we went to this coffee place and hung out on their patio for a while. I was really good and didn't even bark when Ryan went inside to order his coffee. I got a little upset when this one dog went by, but I let two others go by unnoticed, and I even held back from barking at two skateboarders even though I really don't like them...they scare me a little. Ryan also gave me lots of treats while we were there.

Now we're back home, so I'm just going to stretch out here on the floor until my dinner time. Ryan better have been joking when he said at the coffee shop that those treats were my dinner...

i know there's food in here somewhere

well...at least I got the crumbs cleaned out of it. It would have been nice if Ryan had given me the bag when it was full and not after he had emptied it. Oh well...it was yummy anyways. It's nice having Ryan home, even though he spends way too much time on his computer...he still takes me out in the back yard to run around and play ball and tug of war more than when he's going to school. Anyways...i think it's my nap time now...or maybe it's run around outside with ryan time...darnit, I can never remember.

waiting for the mailman

I don't understand...the evil evil mailman came this week and I got by Ryan to protect him and jumped up on the mailman but I got in trouble for it. I was just protecting my Ryan...

I heard the mailman say I bit him but I only jumped up and put my mouth around his arm ever so lightly. I would never bite anyone. He said if it happens again we might not get any more mail that attacks me through the mail slot in the door every day. I would be okay with that...the mail is very bad, that's why I have to attack it back when it comes through the slot.

One time I was sleeping by the door and the mail came through and hit me in the head and that's when I knew it was evil. I hope Ryan and Sara aren't too mad at me. I think they're giving me less food and treats...I'm sure before I was getting fed 12 times a day and now it's only twice.

This studying is hard

I don't know how Ryan does it. He's been studying lots lately. I heard them say he has lots of exams and papers... whatever those are.

I tried reading one of his books on labour relations but I just couldn't read very much without needing to eat some food and fall asleep. (come to think of it... I can't do much without needing to eat some food and fall asleep... maybe that's just part of being a wienerblab.)

Oh well... I think I'll go eat some food and fall asleep.

missing tobi

I miss Tobi.

He is my very best friend, and he came to stay at my house for a few days. We played alllll the time!! Well, sometimes when i wanted to play he said he was too tired, but then i just lay next to him and we cuddled.

I was so sad when he left that i stood at the window and cried as he drove away. Hopefully i'll see him again soon.

bath time

My people certainly are lucky that i am such a patient boy!

They got me dirty, and then told me that i had to have a bath. They say that i am very very good to stand still while they cover me in soap and then hose me down. Even though they bought a special connector so i can get hosed down with warm water, i don't like it much.

Don't you agree that i am very patient with their weird habits?

the sun rocks!

So nice and warm on my fuzzy sausage-like body. It's nice just lying here on the window seat that Sara made. I'm also glad Ryan is home because it means I can beg him for treats, especially right after barking at dogs or the mailman. I know Ryan and Sara are upset because Ryan didn't get this job he was hoping to get...(people don't think I can read, but I read the letter he got in the mail) I think everything will be fine. Maybe Ryan can get a job at a doggie store so he can bring me home lots of toys and treats all the time. But if not, he can just lie here with me on the window seat.

Who says all dogs walk on four legs?

Okay, so the picture may be a bit deceiving. Ryan and Sara have been teaching me some more tricks. I'm getting much better, but when other dogs are around I still tend to freak out a lot.

This is me "being tall."

I was also fetching the ball for Ryan but actually giving it back instead of playing keep away...who knew that's what he wanted me to do?

Honestly, people need to be more specific. If he wanted me to give it back, all he had to do was say ArARArArARARrrrrraAAR.

Ryan has been home all this week, which is nice, but I think next week things will be back to before with both of them leaving me at home alone all day.

I hope that funny-looking whippet that moved in next-door isn't staying. He whines a lot and is a lot louder than that other funny-looking chihuahua Napoleon.

weird people

These people came to my house. And they are here with my people drinking beer and they are giving me lots of cookies because i am such a good boy. I show them my tricks and they say i am the best dog ever.

Did you know that people are weird sometimes? But that's okay with me. I like it when they say i'm really great and give me treats, even if it means i need to be very patient with them sometimes.

oh my goodness oh my goodness i know i usually don't tell two stories in one day but i just have to say that i am very very excited about these super yummy liver treats that ryan made and oh my goodness i'm just so excited that oh my goodness i just want to eat them all of them all at once only ryan and sara won't give them to me all at once oh my goodness i'm so excited these are so very very yummy

picking up sara

Today I took Ryan all the way downtown to pick up Sara from work, and then we walked all the way back home together. I was a really really good boy, even though we saw lots of dogs and skateboards and strangers and buses and other scary things.

In fact, I was such a good boy that Ryan is making me homemade liver treats -- I can hardly wait! In the meantime, I'll just lie here and play with my toys.

napping

As I've already told you, one of my favourite things is napping. I like to nap for most of the morning so that I have lots of energy to run around and play games in the evening when everyone is home.

On weekends, Ryan and Sara often stay home with me in the morning, and sometimes we take naps together. Today I cuddled with Sara on the window seat because she was feeling yucky.

in my kennel

Today i was home alone for the whooooole day.

But I'm a good boy, so I'm sitting in my kennel. I hope that if I sit in my kennel for long enough, Sara will come and give me a treat for being so good.

I never used to like my kennel. At first, I thought it was a scary cage like the ones at the pound were I was for a little while. But then I learned that it's my special space, and now I like to go and sit in there a lot. Especially when I'm trying to be a good boy.

Hopefully Sara will bring me my treats soon...

doing errands

This week Sara is home from work. She says it's because she's working on her master's thesis, but I know the real reason is that she wants to cuddle with me lots and take me for extra long walks. We often do errands on our walks.

Actually, Sara and I just got back from doing errands. I like to help with errands. Sara and Ryan don't like going into stores without me, so we visit stores where I am allowed to come inside. Today Sara and I went to the hardware store, and the people there all think I'm great. I think the hardware store is one of my favourite places because there are all sorts of great smells.

Although I also like the movie store because a few times I have found yummy things, like popcorn, on the ground (just don't tell Sara and Ryan about it, they're pretty uptight and probably wouldn't approve).

where is my chair?

i'm upset because someone took away my chair. i had this great brown fuzzy armchair that i would sleep on. i especially liked to do my "scubee donut" pose on the chair.

but then ryan said he wanted a new chair that would be better suited for doing his law school reading. our apartment is small and we couldn't fit both chairs, and apparently ryan's chair is more important that my chair, so sara and ryan took my chair away.

now sometimes in the evening i sit in front of the new chair and stare at it. i think maybe if i glare at it hard enough it will transform into my old brown fuzzy chair.

My new sweater

Hey there, I forgot to mention what I got for christmas...I don't know what christmas is but I like it because I got lots of cookies...but that's not all. I also got this neat hooded sweater that keeps me nice and warm. I'm not allowed to wear it outside much because I tend to get very muddy when I go outside and it's wet out...but maybe when it's dry. Here's a picture of me in my new hoodie. Aren't I such a great model!
